My dog almost took my fingers off for this one - he who is normally so blase about treats. He got to lick the bowl! You need a strong stomach to work with liver, let alone put it in a blender, but I tried not to think about it and it went quickly. I added 3 cloves of garlic, and used more whole wheat flour and oatmeal for the flour and wheat germ. Dogs shouldn't have salt and don't need it; leave it out. I baked it for 25 minutes to make sure it was dry and crunchy. Cut it up with a pizza cutter into little squares, froze a bunch in a ziploc and the rest, well, into the treat jar. I have enough treats for a couple months or more for $5 in ingredients. And he's giddy.

wow, thanks for that cute visual of a day in your kitchen with your pup. We don't often get feedback on the recipes - and yes, liver is not my favorite ingredient to work with, but the dogs LOVE it. thanks again for sharing.

I thought garlic is toxic to dogs?

Onions and garlic contain the toxic ingredient thiosulphate. Onions are more of a danger.
While garlic also contains the toxic ingredient thiosulphate, it seems that garlic is less toxic and large amounts would need to be eaten to cause illness.

Then why give garlic at all? (It's US it's good for.)At any rate
This was such fun to make and SO easy. I put everything wet into the blender, with a little water to get it going, then poured that goop into the dry ingredients. --I didn't have wheat germ or cooked barley and used some cornmeal I had..be sure to oil the cookie tray with Olive Oil.
These also ship well.... I'm sending some to a daughter in california --well, for her DOG(!)
