English Springer Spaniels

The English Springer Spaniel wasn't classifed as a separate breed from the Cocker Spaniel until the late 1800's. Portaits identifying this breed date back to the mid-1600's.  The English Springer Spaniel's original job included "springing" game and birds from hiding places. Its name emphasizes the importance of this hunting role.
