Europe to ban trade of cat and dog fur

Europe is to ban the import, export and sale of cat and dog fur in response to a huge public outcry over the barbaric treatment of the animals, it was announced today.
Evidence of a thriving cat and dog fur trade in many European countries including France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark, has been exposed by the Humane Society International.
HSI estimates around 2 million cats and dogs are killed for fur each year, with an estimated 5,400 cats and dogs killed in China each day.
DNA tests have shown that many rugs, coats, figurines and some children's soft-toys on sale in shops were made from real cat and dog fur, which are usually marketed as being made of synthetic fur.
Pressure for a ban has been mounting for months, including a major campaign championed by Heather Mills-McCartney which demanded an immediate end to the trade.
The ban proposed by Markos Kyprianou, Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, in Brussels today involves ending the production, marketing and trade of cat and dog fur throughout the EU, and establishing a system of information exchange on the detection of cat and dog fur.

First I want to say a really BIG thank you to people like Heather Mills-McCartney who on having discovered this tragedy, and exposed it went on to do something about it.
I just read the article to my husband and I am still stammering and spitting from pure rage that a thing like this is happening anywhere in the world. Are we truly in the dark ages where animals are concerned?
I don't know what I can personaly do, but you can be sure that none of my grandchildrens gifts will have anything with fur on it.
