CITY OF NEW ORLEANS ANIMAL RESCUE

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA), the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA), the Louisiana Animal Control Association (LACA), the LSU AgCenter, and the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) are managing animal evacuations and recovery plans for New Orleans pets and displaced animals.

NOTE from LSU: "Rumors that we have run out of room are NOT TRUE. We have plenty of space and are still accepting animals. We will remain in operation as long as necessary to reunite as many people and pets as possible."

"Our Mission: To provide loving care and shelter for pets until they can be reunited with their families who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina"

We would be happy to foster a couple of Pets ,while the owners are looking for a home. Then be happy to return them.

All the animal rescue personnel who have gone into the hurricane-affected areas to rescue the stranded dogs, cats, etc. are doing a great great thing. I keep seeing film footage on the major networks of dogs still stranded on rooftops and porches. I wish the film crews wouldn't just film them and pass them by but would stop and pick them up. Don't they realize that these dogs are someone's beloved pets? Do the film crews not know that they can bring them to a shelter? Also, I think we should all email our senators and congressman and ask them to put pressure on FEMA to allow the people being currently evacuated from New Orleans to be allowed to take their pets with them. Everyone knows that dogs (and cats and horses, etc) are "man's best friend". Isn't it time we return the favor?

HIGH PRIORITY RE: DEAF KATRINA VICTIM'S HEARING DOG

I am a hospital chaplain in San Antonio, Texas. A deaf patient here was evacuated from the New Orleans area. Rescue workers tied her hands when she refused to leave without her hearing dog, Hunter. He was left behind at PGT Beauregard Middle School located at 1201 Bayou Road, Saint Bernard, LA 70085, in St. Bernard Parish.

Hunter is a medium-sized tricolor Beagle/Collie cross, shorthaired, with brown collar. He is microchipped but the address in Jefferson Parish is invalid. His owner's name is Fay Bourg. She is at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital now but will be sheltered at Kelly USA in San Antonio. PLEASE TRY to rescue him, he is her EARS and she's heartbroken! If you have any information, my home phone is 210-402-4048 (cell 210-849-2753), or you can leave a message with any chaplain at the hospital at 210-704-2181.

Thanks and God bless you!
Donna Dickerson, chaplain

Please Help Us Find Barren a Home! My 42 Yr old husband just passed away on 6/24/06, leaving behind his wife, 4 month daughter and 11 year old stepdaughter. It has left us all devestated. Unfortunatly, we had no life insurance and are in the process of losing our home. We NEED someone to find it in their hearts to adopt our beautiful 9 yr old rottweiler, Barren. He is very loveable, friendly, well behaved and an excellent companion. Barren is sadly a victim of this tragity that has come our way. Please help him get a new loving home. We don't have much longer until everything is gone. We would hate to lose another family member we love. I am sorry for all of you that have lost your loved ones and companions. If you have interest in adopting Barren, please call 484-553-7257 or email me at gmtra@verizon.net. Thank you.

Dear Friends Who Love Animals,

I am writing to ask you to help me get the word out about a wonderful free service to your patrons/customers. Any links you can put up to our site will be helpful to them. Forwarding this email to any other people or groups who may be interested is also appreciated.

We are the Interfaith Association of Animal Chaplains. We provide free phone counseling to bereaved pet owners. Some of our professional Chaplains also provide other services (euthanasia visits, memorial services, etc.) on a fee-for-service basis, while others perform them at no cost as part of their congregational ministry. Each Chaplain works independently to serve people and animals in need. To find Animal Chaplains in your area, go to our site at www.AnimalChaplains.com and click on "clergy list".

Our site also has many other free services, such as memorial readings, pet blessings, interfaith scriptural support, sermons on pet ownership, animal ministry support, guest book/blogs, etc. We thank-you for helping us to get the word out about the many free services available on AnimalChaplains.com to pet owners and the animals they love.

If we have corresponded before and you already have a link to our site, please forgive me for this duplicate email. Thank-you for the wonderful and important work you do.

Yours in peace and friendship,
Nancy
